TARAS BULBA REMAKE IS SET TO ROLL CAMERA IN CRIMEA

Hollywood Remake of a Ukrainian Hero Story

Beverly Hills, CA. – August 17, 2009 – Beverly Hills Film Studios President, Producer/Director BJ Davis has announced that a remake is underway for the 1962 classic film “Taras Bulba” that starred film legends Yul Brynner and Tony Curtis.

The original short story is based on Nikolai Gogol’s novel, romanticizing the exploits of 17th Century Cossacks, led by legendary Taras Bulba in border disputes with the neighboring Turks and Poles. Its most famous line has Taras Bulba saying "Put your faith in your sword, and your sword in a Pole."
  
A late 2010 start date is scheduled for the film that is set to be filmed in the Crimea. Beverly Hills Film Studios is in talks to secure headliners for the lead parts of Taras Bulba, his son Andrei and a Polish Princess Christine. Action director, veteran filmmaker BJ Davis and Eddie Tantoco, VP of Global Finance for Starwood, are developing a slate of projects to be shot in the Ukraine. Davis worked extensively throughout Eastern Europe with his producer, screenwriter wife, Julia Davis – a Ukrainian native, who is set to scribe this epic remake. Julia Davis is an author of an award-winning film and a former stunt double for Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie.
 
Galyna Kovalska will coordinate the international production, cast, crews and organization for Beverly Hills Film Studios and Dovzhenko Studios – the largest film production studios in the former U.S.S.R. Dovzhenko Studios is located in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. It was built in 1927 and recently celebrated its 80th anniversary, having produced many memorable masterpieces that received 75 international awards, 65 Soviet awards and one Academy Award.

BJ Davis said, “We are excited about the project, which will be produced in association with John D. Schofield, Producer of Academy Award winning films “Ali”, “Jerry McGuire” and “As Good As It Gets. This will be an epic, historical picture with a great cast and crew.”

Davis recently returned from filming on location in Washington, DC with Sony Executive Producer John D. Schofield, on the James L. Brooks film set, “How Do You Know”, starring Reese Witherspoon, Jack Nicholson, Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd. The film is produced by a host of seasoned professionals, including Tom Cruise’s former partner Producer Paula Weinstein, Director James L. Brooks and Director of Photography Janusz Kaminski, whose credits include Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award winners “Saving Private Ryan” and “Schindler’s List”.
